She has a remarkable journey from a life-threatening accident to becoming an Australian Olympian, which highlights the power of resilience. Tess was knocked unconscious by a windsurfer while competing at her national youth championships when she was 16 years old. After brain surgery and having nine screws and a plate lodged inside her head, a 3-week-long coma, and years of rehabilitation, Tess had to learn basic tasks such as learning to talk again. However, she never lost sight of her dream to become an Olympian.
